Utopia - also known as Urapuntja and Amengernterneah - is an Aboriginal homeland region in the Northern Territory, located approximately 350km north-east of Alice Springs. It spans a vast area of over 3,500 square kilometres and is made up of a number of small, interconnected communities.

The region is widely recognised for its strong artistic legacy, particularly through the Utopia Art Movement, which emerged in the late 20th century. Unlike the Western Desert dot painting style, many Utopia artists developed more expressive and individual approaches, often characterised by bold colour, fine linework, and layered mark-making that reflects deep connections to Country.

Utopia has produced some of the most celebrated Aboriginal artists in Australia, including Emily Kame Kngwarreye, the Petyarre sisters, and Teresa Pwerle. Their work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major public and private collections.

Today, the region continues to support a thriving artistic community, with art centres such as Ampilatwatja playing an important role in nurturing artists and preserving cultural knowledge. Works from Utopia remain highly regarded for their distinct style, authenticity, and cultural significance, and are collected across Australia and internationally.
